You are considering investing in an MLM business and you aren’t sure how to evaluate the MLM to determine the best opportunity.  There are many MLM businesses out there and finding the one that is right for you can be the key to your success.  MLM, or multilevel marketing, is a business model in which distributors or independent representatives sell products or goods to consumers and then recruit others to the business to do the same. 

With the multitude of MLM business opportunities out there, you must evaluate the MLM to find the right fit for you. There are several questions that you should ask to determine which MLM opportunity is right for you:

1.       What is the company’s history?

Do some research and learn as much as you can about the company.  Have they been in business for a long time?  Who started the company?  What is the company mission? If your research uncovers anything that you don’t feel fits with your personal goals, then it may not be the best company for you to invest in.

2.      What products or goods does the company offer?

How does the company support claims about its product?  Is the product one that will appeal to a wide range of consumers?  Is the product priced comparably to similar items in the market? Because your first source of income in an MLM opportunity will be from the products that you sell to your customers, make sure that the product is one that you would use or that you feel meets the needs of most consumers.  Your success will be dependent on developing your customer base.

3.      What upfront investment do you need to make to join the business?

Most MLM’s have a low initial start up to become a distributor.  Make sure that the investment you make is one that you can afford and that you are willing to put forth the effort to recover your investment.

4.       Can you generate revenue selling the product only or will you be required to recruit additional distributors to be successful?

Companies that base their income structure only on the premise that you recruit others to the business are not a legitimate MLM.  You should be able to achieve some level of success from selling product only.  Of course, the most successful MLM opportunities will allow you to earn additional compensation for recruiting other distributors.

5.       Are you committed to meeting the minimum sales goals each month?

Make sure that you understand the distributorship requirements on the front end.  Some companies require you to maintain a quota, or minimum sales level, in order to qualify for compensation.  If you can not commit to consistently maintaining that goal, then you might consider another opportunity that better fits with your level of commitment.

If you have thoroughly evaluated the MLM business opportunity and feel that it fits your personal work ethic, commitment level, and is based on selling a product that you feel good about, then you may be well on your way to having your own successful business.

We’ve all heard the old adage,” if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” but are MLM’s really a scam?  MLM is an acronym for multilevel marketing and used broadly, it describes a business model that uses a multi-tiered hierarchy for its compensation plan.  Many people assume that an MLM is a pyramid scheme because of the compensation structure, however pyramid schemes are illegal and MLM’s are not.  In a pyramid scheme, individuals purchase in to the business with the promise that they will reap some reward or benefit without ever receiving any product or service.  In an MLM business, individuals usually purchase a distributorship and sell products to consumers and then recruit or sponsor others in to the business to do the same.  Some of the most successful businesses are MLM’s, they are legitimate and legal. 

Many people are skeptical of MLM’s because they may have heard stories of someone that bought in to a distributorship and then made nothing.  If someone is looking for a “get rich quick” scenario, then chances are, an MLM is not the right business to get in.  However, there are many great MLM companies out there that have allowed people that are driven to be successful reap great rewards.

 A legitimate MLM company must provide goods or services to consumers and most do this through sponsoring distributors to sell their products.  An illegal scam, or pyramid, would be when you buy in to the company with the promise to only get paid when you sponsor or bring others in.  In an MLM, individuals become distributors or independent representatives for the parent company.  They then sell the products to their own customers and earn compensation or commission on the goods sold.  The more customers an individual sells to, the greater their financial success.  The multilevel component, however, means that you can also tell others about the business opportunity and bring them in as distributors under you.  This is called your downline.   Although compensation plans vary among MLM’s, most offer to pay you additional commissions on the sales to customers that your downline recruits make. 

MLM businesses operate legally in all 50 states and more than 100 countries worldwide.  There are numerous legitimate MLM companies in existence and a great potential for individuals to earn income via an MLM.  If you are considering becoming a distributor or independent representative in an MLM business, the key is to research the company thoroughly.  If the company sells a product that you believe in and that you believe you can sell to others, then it might be the perfect business decision for you.  If however, you are looking at a way to make some fast cash with no effort, beware.  You must be willing to sell the product first and foremost.  Even if you don’t consider yourself a salesperson, if you feel good about the product, it will be easy to share it with others.  You can then grow your business exponentially by recruiting other like-minded individuals that believe in the product and are willing to build their own customer base.

There are companies out there that present themselves as MLM businesses that are not.   It is important that consumer products be an integral part of the business first and foremost and you will know that the MLM is not a scam.   Find a company with a great product that you feel great about.  Don’t expect to get rich quick, but expect to love what you are selling and to love telling others about it.  If it promises to make you rich overnight, it’s probably doomed to fail.  There are few businesses that will solve your money woes overnight.  The road to success requires work.  However, legitimate MLM’s may very well be a great path to get you there.

Developing a solid customer base is the first goal in a successful MLM.   Good sales people know and understand the benefits of building relationships, also known as networking.  Some individuals interchange the terms network marketing and MLM, however, network marketing can be used in any business model, not just in multilevel marketing.  Before the internet, networking was mainly done person to person.  Your potential customers were friends and family.  Now, however, many MLM’s can operate on a global level simply with the click of a mouse.   You can use the internet to market your product and to introduce your business to other like-minded individuals.

Success breeds success and leadership is crucial in a successful MLM.  Leaders that have worked hard to achieve can share that success with others, bring them in to the business and train them to do the same.  This is really the second component of operating an MLM business.  As previously mentioned, it is possible to generate income from your products that you sell, but also from the work that your downline does.  A MLM business can grow exponentially as you reach a leadership level and bring others in to the business with you.   There are often recruiting bonuses and additional commissions paid when you achieve specific leadership roles within your MLM business.

If you are willing to work hard, have a passion for your product, and a commitment to follow through consistently, your MLM business can grow and you will reap the rewards of your success.

My choice to start my own Delta XoBiotic Squares home business and profit in the online marketplace was an informed decision of optimism. I believe my future is full of promise, and I am seeing the results of my leap of faith.

MLM, or multilevel marketing, is a business structure that works on a multi-tiered level.  Income is earned when you sell products, but also as you sponsor other sellers to work as part of your team.  This is called the downline.  Money is earned from the downline when those individuals sell products and also recruit additional people in to the business.  The compensation plan grows exponentially and the most successful MLM business owners make money from the work that their downline does.

There are a number of MLM business opportunities and the various types of products to be sold are limitless.  In the MLM business, selling product is the first source of income.  Sales representatives sell their product and earn a set commission on what they sell.  Usually, there is little to no overhead as the parent company handles all of the inventory and product delivery to the customer.  For that reason, there usually isn’t a need to buy and store large amounts of inventory.

The key to a successful MLM business is duplicating efforts.  Although revenue can be earned selling products, recruiting others in to the company and training them to sell product is where the business and compensation grows.  For instance, if a sales representative has 20 customers, he can earn revenue from those 20 customers, however, if he recruits another MLM representative and trains that person to get 20 customers, he now can earn a percentage from 40 customers, not just 20.  The growth of MLM comes in training recruits to be successful in doing the same.  Thus, the downline builds and revenue builds with it. 

MLM compensation can vary from company to company, but essentially, that process of selling to customers and building the downline is consistent across all MLM business models.   The sales representative will normally be paid a larger percentage or commission on the direct sales of products to his customers.   Some MLM companies pay additional revenue when a new recruit is brought in to the business, or sponsored.  Newly recruited members will be trained so that they can learn strategies to be successful in selling products.  Some MLM companies pay individuals when they train new recruits.  Compensation continues to grow as the downline continues to expand and there are usually bonuses or additional percentages paid at predetermined levels.  For instance, a company might increase the product sales commission percentage.  Building leadership is important in any MLM company.   Successful leaders will continue to help the MLM business grow.

The commission structure can be quite complex in MLM’s.  If a company paid out too much in commissions, it would quickly go out of business.  MLM’s , however, are structured so that reaching specific compensation levels is difficult, but attainable by those that wish to work hard to achieve leadership levels.  With MLM’s, it’s not necessary to reach the upper levels of leadership.  There is money to be made just from selling a product that the representative is passionate about.  The income that can be earned can be substantial.  In an MLM, compensation is rewarded by effort.  That old adage “do nothing, get nothing” applies to any business.  But depending on the effort that is put forth, MLM’s can be quite lucrative.

Network marketing doesn’t necessarily need to be multileveled, however, the network marketing concept is used in MLM.  Networking simply means building relationships.  By using your established relationships and developing new ones, the number of people that you can share your MLM business opportunity with is massive.  Imagine the number of people that you know and the ones that you don’t know that are just a click away on the internet.  It used to be that your network of possible recruits was limited to friends and family, however, with the internet and social media, your network is practically infinite.  Finding individuals that are looking for MLM business opportunities is just a click away on Facebook or Twitter and selling your product via markets such as Ebay or Craigslist can grow your business to a global level. 

Many successful MLM business owners began small and started part time from home while still working in their existing job.  Operating a home based business opens the doors for greater flexibility not only in your career but in your personal life as well.  Many people start an MLM business with the goal of just earning a little extra cash while others strive to earn enough to quit their 9-5 job.  There are many successful MLM business owners that make excellent incomes.  With the right product and a passion for that product along with recruiting and training others to become successful, a simple home based MLM company can grow into an excellent income opportunity.
